The 27th Convention of Indian Society of Pharmacognosy (ISP) and International Conference with a theme ‘Role of Traditional Medicine and Phytopharmaceuticals in Healthcare for Viksit Bharat’ is being organized at the campus of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi on 4 &5 October, 2024.
The event will provide an opportunity to include multi-disciplinary conglomeration of pharmaceutical sciences in development of herbal products, industry-academia synergism: right sourcing to right deliverables in botanicals and role of Traditional Systems of Medicine.
The conference will be a platform for policy makers, manufacturers, medicinal plant cultivators, academicians, researchers and students from across the globe.
The chief patron of the two-day event is Janab Hammad Ahmad Saheb Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard. Prof. M Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard is the patron. Prof CK Kokate, Prof NR Sheth, Prof VK Dixit, Prof Farhan J Ahmad are Co-Patrons. Prof Vidhu Aeri is the Convener & Chairperson Prof M Mujeeb, Prof. BP Panda are Co-Conveners. The organizing secretary is Prof. SR Mir. The joint secretary is Prof. Sayeed Ahmad and Treasurer is Dr. Adil Ahmad.
The conference is open to academicians, entrepreneurs, traditional system practitioners, scientists, and students. Stakeholders interested in staying updated in the field of herbal drug research, particularly in exploring its potential in therapeutics and nutritional supplements, are welcome to attend this valuable event. The focus is n are pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmacology and pharmaceutics.
ISP is a national organization for pharmacy professionals. It includes members from the field of Pharmacognosy, research and development of natural products and phytomedicines. It holds this annual convention, and once every four years, it hosts an international conference to bring together the ideas of scientists and academicians engaged in pharmacognosy and natural product research.
Jamia Hamdard was established by Founder-Chancellor Hakeem Abdul Hameed and was declared a deemed-to-be University. This recognition the educational institutes founded by the Hamdard National Foundation (HNF). These include Hamdard College of Pharmacy, Hamdard Tibbi College, Rufaida College of Nursing, Institute of History of Medicine & Medical Research, and the Indian Institute of Islamic Studies.
The University has received special grants, including the PURSE (Promotion of University Research in Science and Engineering) grant, and more recently, Rs. 10 crore from the Ayush Ministry under the Centre for Excellence Scheme. Additionally, it has been funded under the STUTI, a scheme by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (SPER) focuses on advanced research in formulation research and nanomedicine, neurobehavioral pharmacology, microbial and pharmaceutical biotechnology, bioactive natural products. Drug Design and Medicinal Chemistry, is an integral part of the School. The Department is actively involved in the discovery and development of herbal drugs, phytopharmaceuticals, and microbial products; quality control of herbal and microbial products, as well as botanicals, through the analysis of principal components, markers, and fingerprinting; and the enhanced production of secondary metabolites through fermentation technology. It is supported by DST-FIST, UGC-SAP, and the MODROBS programme.
