The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has called for applications from eligible candidates for an additional whole time position of technical consultant in its division working on two of its industry support schemes, as part of its ongoing process of appointing technical consultants and consultants.
It has also extended the last date of submission of applications for ten technical consultants and consultants to work with the Department in its various divisions, on contract basis.
The Department has initially called for applications through an advertisement on June 24, with July 14 as the deadline for online submission. It has now announced that the last date of submitting applications has been extended to July 24, for the ten posts.
In addition to the ten posts it has advertised in June, one additional position of Technical Consultant-I (Pharma) in Strengthening of Pharmaceutical Industry (SPI) and Bulk Drug Park Division has been included in the ongoing engagement process.
The application form, along with descriptions of role, responsibilities, required attributes, eligibility criteria, and other terms of engagement for the two additional positions has also been released by the DoP, along with this.
The Technical Consultant in SPI and Bulk Drug Park Division is expected to provide specialised technical and analytical support on pharmaceutical and bulk drugs in the context of India’s pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem.
"The role focuses on regulatory compliance, market analysis, quality standards, manufacturing competitiveness, and policy inputs for strengthening India’s Pharmaceutical sector alongside pharmaceuticals," said the DoP.
The consultant will have responsibilities including to review and evaluate project proposals, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), technical specifications, and cost estimates submitted under the schemes; assess technical feasibility, technology selection, infrastructure requirements, and compliance with scheme guidelines; provide technical support to implementing agencies, state governments, and beneficiary units; monitor project implementation, physical progress, milestone achievement, and utilisation of funds; and conduct site visits, inspections, and technical audits to verify project execution and quality standards, among others.
Candidates with MS (Pharma) or M Pharm or equivalent degree in any discipline, from any recognised university or institute, with minimum three years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, regulatory bodies, consulting or research organisations, understanding of facilities in a pharmaceutical unit and understanding of bulk drugs under the age of 40 years as on June 30, 2026, can apply for the post.
In June, the Department called for applications to appoint a legal consultant in the pricing division, a financial consultant, a legal consultant, and an administrative consultant (retired officers only) in the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) division.
Applications have also been called for the position of one technical consultant each for pharmaceuticals and international relations under the international cooperation division, two technical consultants on medical devices for the medical devices division, and a technical consultant and a technical consultant (Grade II) on pharmaceuticals for the pharma policy division.
During the time, it has also invited applications from eligible candidates for ten posts of Young Professionals, to operate in various divisions under the DoP.
As reported, the DoP has issued separate guidelines for hiring of technical consultants and young technical professionals on contract basis in the Department earlier this year, revising the consolidated guidelines issued for hiring on February 20, 2023.
The guidelines has been issued to support the Department to avail expertise of technical consultants and young professionals who possess the requisite skill set- with more flexibility to deliver in areas where the Department does not have in-house technical manpower.
The DoP, while issuing the guidelines in February, 2023, said that it specifically requires high quality professionals with expertise in pharmaceutical and medical devices research and development, examination of drug and drug formulation, examination of critical and restricted active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)/key starting materials (KSMs), examination of medical devices regulation, standards etc., examination of proposals in international cooperation, project management, legal, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), fixation of input-output norms and others.
