DSS Takara Bio India. (DTI), the joint venture between DSS Imagetech., India, and Takara Bio Inc., Japan, is celebrating 15 years of advancing life-science research, biotechnology and molecular diagnostics in India. Built on a shared India-Japan vision, DTI has grown from a technology access partnership into a national platform for world-class molecular biology manufacturing, scientific support and research-led innovation.
At the heart of this milestone is a powerful Make in India story. DTI today manufactures over 100 molecular biology reagents and enzymes at its ISO-certified facility in New Delhi, making it one of India's leading manufacturers of molecular biology reagents and enzymes. The facility has end-to-end manufacturing capabilities for molecular biology reagents and critical enzymes, with an annual production capacity exceeding 20 million units, supported by an increasing focus on local sourcing, robust quality systems and supply resilience.
For Indian scientists, this has translated into faster, more reliable and more affordable access to advanced tools for PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing, gene expression, cell biology, stem cell research, protein analysis and translational research. By localising key products and building strong application support across the country, DTI has helped reduce dependence on imports while enabling researchers, diagnostic laboratories and biopharmaceutical companies to work with globally benchmarked technologies made available in India.

The company now serves more than 4,000 institutes and organizations through nine regional offices, with several of its technologies cited in research publications from more than 30 leading Indian institutions, including AIIMS, IISc, CSIR-IGIB, THSTI, ICMR institutes and IITs. Its customer base spans academic research, government laboratories, diagnostics, biopharma, CROs, CDMOs and emerging biotechnology companies.
DTI runs a bioinformatics R&D function in India that supports Takara Bio’s global R&D programs, demonstrating how India can contribute not only as a market and manufacturing base, but also as a scientific and computational research partner to global life-science innovation.
