Medprime solves manual pathology bottlenecks with the launch of Cilika AI for faster, scalable diagnostics

Medprime Technologies, India’s pioneer in digital microscopy, announced the launch of CILIKA AI, a modular software ecosystem designed to enhance diagnostic precision through assistive intelligence. The platform debuts with its first specialized module, CILIKA AI Retic, which automates the traditionally labor-intensive process of reticulocyte counting.

Developed as an intelligent assistant, CILIKA AI is engineered to support the pathologist's expertise. The software highlights and displays the count of candidate cells on digital images of blood samples, allowing laboratory professionals to maintain final diagnostic authority while significantly reducing manual fatigue.

Reticulocyte counts are used by clinicians as vital indicators of bone marrow activity, essential for monitoring anaemia, oncology recovery, and treatment responses. However, manual counting remains a slow, subjective, and labour-intensive bottleneck for many labs.

In traditional manual microscopy, pathologists must identify and count immature red blood cells across multiple fields of view. This process is inherently subjective, leading to high inter-observer variability where different experts may produce different results for the same sample. Furthermore, the repetitive nature of manual counting causes significant visual and mental fatigue, which increases the risk of human error and overlooked cells, potentially impacting clinical decisions.

CILIKA AI Retic addresses these clinical pain points by enhancing Precision. It helps moving from subjective manual counting to AI-assisted detection of immature red blood cells via supravital staining. It optimises efficiency by processing multiple fields of view (FOVs) and generating comprehensive reports in minutes. It improves cost-effectiveness, enabling small to mid-sized labs to perform advanced haematological analysis without the need for expensive, dedicated automated analyzers.

"Our roadmap has always been drawn by the experts who use our tools every day. When our customers requested more than just visualization, we listened. CILIKA AI Retic is just the foundation of an evolving ecosystem. We are actively developing additional diagnostic layers, allowing laboratories to scale their capabilities seamlessly as their needs evolve,” said Samrat, CEO and co-founder, Medprime Technologies.

"In pathology, AI is going to help take the tedious, routine work out of the process while we remain in the loop. With CILIKA AI Retic, we have shifted our entire workflow from expensive analyzers to this platform because it is more accurate, affordable, and reduces a 30-minute manual task to just two minutes,” said Dr Ankur Singh, laboratory director, Ankuram Labs.
