On the occasion of Yoga Mahotsav–2026, held on April 7, 2026, the Ministry of Ayush successfully mobilized over 5,000 participants at Maharashtra's geologically famous Lonar Lake in Buldhana. The gathering served as a spiritual and physical prelude to the 12th International Day of Yoga.

Organized by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the Ministry of Ayush, the event officially signalled the 75-day countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga. Against the backdrop of the Chatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj Udyan, practitioners of all ages performed the Common Yoga Protocol, uniting in a mass demonstration of health and mindfulness.

The morning reached a historic peak when the Asia Book of Records officially recognized a new world record for the largest gathering of people practicing ‘Trikonasana’, or the Triangle Pose, simultaneously. Union Minister of State for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, lauded the achievement, noting that the record was not merely a numerical feat but a testament to the collective strength of Yoga in uniting minds and bodies across the nation.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Minister Jadhav described the event as a global awakening starting from the sacred soil of Buldhana. He emphasized that Yoga remains a timeless pillar of harmony, offering essential tools for mental clarity and emotional resilience in an increasingly complex world. His speech underscored the government’s commitment to making Yoga a foundational part of every Indian household.

Beyond physical movement, the Mahotsav placed a significant spotlight on ‘Ayush Aahara’, or traditional nutritional wisdom. The minister highlighted the vital role of nature-based foods, such as ragi, millets, and medicinal spices, in strengthening digestion and immunity. This holistic approach aims to pair the physical discipline of Yoga with conscious eating habits to combat the rising tide of lifestyle-related ailments.

The event also served as a platform for several modern health initiatives, including the ‘Yoga for Air Travel’ protocol and specific routines designed to manage non-communicable diseases. To encourage immediate adoption, organizers shared a dedicated toll-free number, 1800-315-7008, offering participants 14 days of free yoga instruction. These resources are part of the broader ‘Yoga 365’ campaign intended to sustain interest well beyond the annual celebration.

Looking ahead to the 12th International Day of Yoga, officials announced that this year’s theme will focus heavily on geriatric health and the innovative integration of Artificial Intelligence with Yoga practice. By leveraging technology, the Ministry of Ayush hopes to provide more personalized and accessible wellness guidance to diverse populations, ensuring that the ancient practice evolves alongside modern scientific advancements.

The Mahotsav concluded with a live demonstration led by Prof. Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, director of MDNIY, who expressed gratitude for the massive public participation. As the 75-day countdown continues, the spirit of the Buldhana gathering sets the stage for a nationwide movement, reinforcing India’s role as a global leader in promoting a culture of holistic well-being and peace, sources informed.
