The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has directed all pharmacy institutions in the country to appoint a nodal officer and a student ambassador in their institution to coordinate with the Council on various matters, to help improve coordination and effective implementation of the PCI's initiatives across the institutions.

The appointment of nodal officers is to coordinate with the PCI regarding various schemes implemented by the Council to promote and develop the pharmacy profession and to coordinate in order to organise various events as directed by the Council.

The PCI runs various schemes including Capacity Building Industrial Training (CBIT), Continuing Education Programme (CEP), Professional Development Fund (PDF), Refresher Course for Pharmacists, Professional development Fund (PDF), Research Development Scheme (RDS), Skill Development Centre for Pharmacists (SDCP), Pradhan Mantri Scholarship for Pharmacy Post Graduate Studies (PMSPPS), and Leadership Development Programme for Teachers.

It also organises and celebrates the Pharma Anveshan on March 6 of every year, International Yoga Day on June 21 of every year, Pharmacists Day on September 25 of every year, National Pharmacy Week in the third week of November of every year, among others.

"In view of the above, all Pharmacy Institutions are requested to appoint a Nodal Officer who will be responsible for coordinating with PCI on all above cited matters," said the Council.

The nodal officer will be responsible to act as the official point of contact between the institution and the PCI, participate in all programmes, events, and schemes organised or recommended by the PCI, ensure timely dissemination of the PCI communications within the institutions, and facilitate smooth execution and active participation in PCI initiatives.

The Council also asked all institutions to share the details of the nodal officer, and fill the details of the nodal officer in the Standard Inspection Format (SIF) for the upcoming session, which is the academic year 2026-27. The PCI will organise an orientation programme/workshop for all the nodal officers once it receives the details of the nodal officers from all institutions, it added.

Similarly, it has asked all institutions to appoint a student ambassador, who will serve as a bridge between students and the PCI. This is to ensure quality education and safeguard the well-being of students in all pharmacy institutions, it added.

The student ambassador will be responsible for listening to student's grievances, concerns, or issues in a respectful and confidential manner, attempting to address and resolve these issues at the student level wherever possible, reporting unresolved or serious concerns to the appropriate authority such as PCI and State Pharmacy Council, promoting a healthy academic environment and contributing to the overall development and mental peace of students, and participating in various awareness programmes and events organised by the PCI.

"This initiative is aimed at enhancing the quality of education, improving communication, and ensuring a supportive and stress-free learning atmosphere for all students," it added.

The Council asked each institution to appoint a responsible and empathetic student to the role and share the details with the PCI.
