Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has now released two books on Indian Medicinal Plants. These are two volumes, according to the Council covering medicinal plants according to the alphabetical order will be of great use for all industry, researchers, and drug development and of use in regulatory submissions. The Council has in its 29 Volumes of the book with the same titles covered reviews of 6715 plant species. The 30th volume covers plants whose names start with alphabets U to V, involving 48 genera, representing 215 plants species, with over 1922 main references. The second book is the 31st volume covers plants whose names start with alphabets W to Z, involving 44 genera, representing 136 plants species, with over 2798 main references. The editor for both volumes are Neeraj Tandon; assistant editors are Satyapal Singh Yadav, Parul Sharma, Sarika Srivastava, Charu Mahavar. Also both Volumes 30 ad 31 were reviewed by Dr D B Anantha Narayana, CSO, Ayurvidye Trust. With the release of Volume 31, Medicinal Plants Division of ICMR has completed reviews on Indian medicinal plants with their botanical names from alphabet A to alphabet Z. This is a commendable job done over many years and ICMR as well as the Medicinal Plants Division is complemented for these high-quality scientific reviews on Indian medicinal plants. It belongs to a category of ‘human service’ to this area and of global relevance especially in today’s scenario of use of botanicals and its processed material for wellness, traditional medicines and for development of phytopharmaceuticals/botanical drugs, stated Dr Narayana. A highly user centric thought based these cumulative indices provide index of different search words. One can search based on botanical names, family names, including generic names, regional and other names, pharmacological and biological activities. Additionally, there is index of plant genera covered in each volume from 1 to 31. This cumulative index itself is a great use for anyone searching specific plants, said Dr Narayana.
