The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, has announced an invitation for Expression of Interest (EoI) from eligible organizations, companies, and manufacturers for the transfer of technology related to a groundbreaking diagnostic tool, "A colorimetric isothermal (LAMP) assay for rapid detection of Monkeypox virus”. This initiative aims to facilitate the commercialization of the innovative detection method and expand its accessibility.
The last date for submission of the EoI is March 12, 2025. Organizations meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to submit their proposals before the deadline.
This strategic initiative is expected to significantly enhance the availability of rapid Monkeypox detection tools, contributing to improved public health preparedness and response mechanisms. By facilitating technology transfer to capable industry partners, ICMR aims to accelerate the deployment of this crucial diagnostic assay, ensuring its widespread availability in both national and international markets.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV), a key constituent of ICMR, has developed this rapid detection technology, which uses loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for the colorimetric detection of the Monkeypox virus.
Given the potential global health risks posed by Monkeypox, this diagnostic tool is designed to provide a quick and efficient means of detecting the virus, aiding in early diagnosis and containment efforts. The innovative LAMP assay offers a cost-effective, user-friendly alternative to conventional molecular diagnostic methods.
ICMR is seeking partnerships with eligible companies and organizations for the technology transfer and subsequent commercialization of the LAMP assay. The selected company will be granted rights to develop the technology further, manufacture and distribute the diagnostic assay, undertake additional research and development to enhance the product and commercialize and market the product globally.
Interested entities are encouraged to download the EoI document from the official ICMR website (https://www.icmr.gov.in), which provides comprehensive details.
