A Global Ayurvedic Network for Excellence and Science Harmonization (GANESH) has been launched to promote Ayurveda and integrate traditional medicines with modern sciences in coordination with medical institutions, practitioners and researchers across the world.

Dr Antonio Iswara Morandi, a World Health Organisation (WHO) advisor for Ayurveda, said this mechanism will help for overcoming the challenges being confronted in the efforts to take the ancient system of medicine across the globe.

Dr Morandi said the network will bring together different systems and approaches for providing optimal healthcare to patients all over the world.

He said this while speaking in a seminar on “Harmonising Science and Spirituality” in New Delhi two days ago.

Dr Morandi, who is also president of the Italian Scientific Society for Ayurvedic Medicine (ISSAM) and chairman and director of the School of Ayurvedic Medicine, ‘Ayurvedic Point’, said GANESH will have a sophisticated methodological framework and a practical system that will help integrate Ayurveda into other systems of medicine prevalent in various countries.

GANESH will have a core committee and an advisory Board comprising international experts in the field of medicine, besides regional representatives who will work closely with the stakeholders in their countries.

He said, the network’s name, GANESH, has been carefully chosen as the Hindu god is believed to help remove any type of obstacle in the way of achieving goals. GANESH will have clear accountability for fostering collaboration and dissemination of innovations through new ways of knowledge integration.

Among the approaches that will be adopted are Collaborative Medicine and Science (Co.MS) and reformulation of Ayurveda Epistemology, modelling of Ayurveda and localization of Ayurveda in various geographical regions. The move will offer a new healthcare ecosystem through seamless integration of practices of different systems of medicine wherever necessary, he explained.
