10th World Ayurveda Conference attracts a large number of visitors from 59 countries

Creating a global platform for Ayurveda and other Indian Systems of Medicine, the 10th edition of the World Ayurveda Conference (WAC), a four-day event, that began in Dehradun in Uttarakhand on December 12, is attracting thousands of people including global visitors. The event will culminate on December 15.
 
The Congress is organised by the World Ayurveda Foundation, an initiative of Vijnana Bharati, and is themed, ‘Digital Health – An Ayurveda Perspective’. The event is attended by ayurvedic practitioners, researchers, administrators, diplomats, faculty members of institutions and students.
 
An exhibition in the title, ‘Arogya Expo 2024’ is also conducted as part of the world conference which is going on at Dehradun’s Parade Ground, covering an expansive of one lakh square feet area.
 
The chief coordinator of the WAC, KA Chandrasekharan Nair said the conference is attended by 8,221 registered delegates from 59 countries including India. Representing 58 countries, 324 international delegates are participating in the event. The event witnesses 11 seminars on Ayurveda and traditional medicinal systems. There was an International Delegates Assembly on the first day, in which 300 foreign delegates attended.
 
Various seminars include ‘International Conclave on veterinary Ayurveda, Conclave on Vriksha (tree) Ayurveda, Ethnopharmacology and Traditional Healers’ Meet’, Guru-Shishya Meet, Ayurveda Institutions’ Principals’ Meet, Conclave on Ayush Practitioners, Ayurveda Exporters and Importers B2B, ‘Ayurveda Industry Conclave, International Medicinal Plants Seminar and Ayurveda Short Film Festivals’.
 
In the inaugural function on December 12, a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was read out. Modi said in his message that the ancient Indian System of Medicine has the potential to strengthen the global healthcare system. According to him, Ayurveda focuses on providing comprehensive remedies to various health problems and lays equal emphasis on prevention, nutrition and mental health.
 
The conference was inaugurated by Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He said Ayurveda will be taken to every nook and corner of the country and popularized overseas in close collaboration with the practitioners and manufacturers of herbal products. He said the entire world has begun recognizing the importance of Ayurveda because of its holistic treatment approach. Ayurveda was found to be effective in successfully treating Covid-19 patients from the very beginning of the pandemic.
 
The CM further said Uttarakhand is setting up 300 Ayurveda hospitals with 10 to 50 beds and has sought the central government’s approval for setting up a national level research institute. He appealed to the participants to popularize the English names of several herbs to promote the sale and help the needy to source it from the market.
 
Chairing the first session of the WAC, the Ayush secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said the country is well on its track in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for the sustainable development of Ayurveda ecosystem based on digital health concepts aimed at achieving the goal of equity in health and wealth with scalability. He outlined the progress on India’s initiatives to accelerate the pace of the ayurvedic renaissance witnessed over the past two decades.
 
Dr P Madhavan Kutty Varier, chairman of the National Organizing Committee of the 10th WAC, said the Congress has been shaping over the years the growth trajectory of the sector and is making all-out efforts to fully integrate Ayurveda into the mainstream of the healthcare system.
 
Out of the 3993 research papers submitted by teachers, students and researchers, 1,222 papers were presented in the conference. In the Arogya Expo, 222 manufacturing companies showcased their products.
