Tamil Nadu and Kerala to celebrate Siddha Day on December 19 with great enthusiasm

The Siddha fraternity in Tamil Nadu will celebrate the Siddha Day on December 19 with great enthusiasm. Siddha Day is celebrated every year on the birthday of Sage Agastia who is considered to be the father of the Siddha System of Medicine.
 
In Tamil Nadu, the celebration programmes are organised by the Central Council of Research in Siddha (CCRS) in association with National Institute of Siddha (NIS) and government Siddha medical colleges. The programme will be held at Anna Centenary Library Hall at Kotturpuram in Chennai on December 19, said Dr N J Muthukumar, director general of the CCRS.
 
Union Minister for Ayush, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, will be the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Siddha Day.
 
Briefing Pharmabiz about the programme, Dr Muthukumar said the CCRS is conducting a one-week Siddha Expo at the library hall from December 14 to 19, and all the Siddha drug manufacturers in the state will showcase their products in the exhibition. Teachers and students of the two Government Siddha Medical Colleges, and those from the NIS and the private institutions will also be present on these days. Further, associations of Siddha doctors, faculty members, students and employees of the CCRS and NIS will join the programme.
 
On the same day, a separate celebration programme will be held at the Birla Planetarium where demonstrations of varma therapies will be conducted by the National Institute of Siddha. The director of the NIS, Dr R Meenakumari said the varma therapies will benefit 555 persons in Tamil Nadu. Varma therapists from the institute will demonstrate the varma therapy on the day.
 
Dr M Kannan, president of the Indian Medical Practitioners Co-operative Pharmacy and Stores Limited (IMPCOPS) said the society will take part in the exhibition at the Kotturpuram library hall, and all the doctors of the Siddha hospitals will attend the celebration programmes and conferences. On the day, IMPCOPS will bring out a new medicine in Siddha.
 
In Kerala, the Association of Siddha Medical Practitioners Kerala, led by Dr. Arun Baby from Wynadu will organise one programme in a village in the district. Free medical check up and distribution of Siddha medicines will be conducted on the day. He said the programme will be held in a tribal area where a lot of people are following the Siddha system.
