Precision diagnostics, genetic testing, and mobile health technologies are transforming healthcare delivery, particularly in rural and underserved regions. It will reduce healthcare costs, and improve overall health management across hard-to-reach communities.

According to Dinesh Chauhan, CEO, CORE Diagnostics, Indian healthcare sector has now identified mobile health, genomic testing, and precision diagnostics to transform its medical services. These three innovations seem to guarantee a transformation in the accessibility of health care, particularly by 2025, as the country plans to achieve Universal Health Coverage: precision diagnostics, genetic testing, and mobile health.

Given the fact that over 600 million people in rural India are mobile phone owners, it can be presumed that mHealth is the most efficient way of delivering health services to people in these areas. With mHealth, the limitations of medical institutions can be addressed, along with constraints of cost and distance.

Initiatives such as the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) aim to digitise all health records and connect them throughout the country. By having access to data in an easier way, this will better coordinate and make mobile health services more efficient. By 2025, mobile health could fill healthcare gaps in rural areas by providing millions of people with much-needed critical health services, something which has so far remained out of reach, Chauhan told Pharmabiz

Hence, the future of individualised health care is precisive diagnostics and genomic testing. It will help in addressing the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases in rural areas. Early disease detection, identification of genetic predispositions, and the creation of individualised treatment regimens are all made possible by genomic testing. Companies like Core Diagnostics are already assisting in expanding access to genomic testing across India, he said.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into genetic analytics will lower expenses, thus expanding the accessibility of these technologies for rural communities. These technologies assist healthcare providers detect at-risk groups early, enabling preventive interventions and lowering the total strain on healthcare systems, in addition to offering more effective treatments. Millions of people's lives could be improved by 2025 if genomic testing and precision diagnostics assist in changing the emphasis of healthcare in rural India from treatment to prevention, said Chauhan.

This is perhaps a unified approach to integrate technology and local healthcare system. Now to reach these technologies, key personalities in rural locations, such as nurses and ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activist), will prove to be very vital. To ensure that the people of the rural areas benefit from these technological advancements, they must be trained for usage with AI-based tools and mobile health applications, he noted.

To enable real-time patient screening and refer patients to the right care providers, start-ups and non-governmental organisations are already working to integrate AI and mHealth technologies into rural healthcare systems. Here the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), are also crucial in establishing the frameworks required to expand these technologies throughout the country.

Therefore, we see India healthcare system to witness a revolution by 2025. Precision diagnostics, genomic testing and mobile health will transform the delivery of medical care, vastly in rural regions. This will definitely require partnerships between governments, technology companies, healthcare professionals, and private enterprises, said Chauhan.
