The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has asked all pharmacy institutions to appoint nodal officers to ensure linking student details on the scholarship portal in order to award the monthly scholarship for eligible Pharmacy Post Graduate (GPAT) students.
The direction is in line with the PCI's announced intention to award the Pradhan Mantri Scholarship for Pharmacy Post Graduate Studies (PMSPPS) for Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) qualified students admitted to PCI approved postgraduate programmes in the Council-approved institutions, university departments as per the approved intake. The scholarship will be Rs. 12,400 per month to full time students.
For the disbursement of the scholarship, institutions need to confirm the details of all the students admitted to their institutions and eligible for the scholarship as student linking process will be started for the disbursement in future.
In view of this decision, "institutions are requested to appoint two nodal officers in their institutions i.e. one as maker (authorised by the principal/head of institutions) and another one as checker (who is principal of the institution) for the student linking process on scholarship portal", said the Council.
Institutions must upload the authorisation documents in the prescribed format attached in a circular released by the Council in its website.
The institutions also must share the nodal officer details by filling up the form in a link provided by the PCI and upload all necessary documents as requested by the Council within three working days, said a circular issued on November 26.
The Council has recently announced that the scholarship will be awarded to eligible GPAT qualified students admitted to PCI-approved post graduate programmes in approved institutions or university departments as per PCI approved intake.
"Only qualified GPAT students are eligible for this scholarship and this will be disbursed for the academic session 2023-24 and 2024-25 as per the result declared by NTA & NBEMS respectively. The scholarship is tenable for the duration of 24 months (2 years)," added the council in a circular to all qualified GPAT candidates.
The National Testing Agency conducts the GPAT exam to facilitate institutions to select suitable pharmacy graduates for admission into the Master's programme.
GPAT is a three hour computer based online test which is conducted in a single session. The GPAT score is accepted by all AICTE-approved institutions, university departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges. A few scholarships and other financial assistance in the field of Pharmacy are also given on the basis of the GPAT score, according to NAT.
The Council, while announcing the scholarship, added that it will be awarded through Canara Bank and all qualified students in the GPAT exam should open their account in the particular bank for scholarship.
It has also shared the link to the bank's portal to open an account and the detailed guideline for the same, along with the circular.
