The 63rd National Pharmacy Week celebration this year in Tamil Nadu will be organised jointly by the state branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (TN IPA) and the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. This time, the programme will be held on November 29 at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium of the university in Guindy in a grand manner. The programme coordinator, J Jayaseelan said the theme of the program is ‘Think Health, and Think Pharmacy’, and the celebration is conducted to recognize the services of the pharmacists and bring awareness on safe use of drugs to avoid dangerous drug interactions and side effects. The president of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Dr. Montu Kumar Patel will be the chief guest at the function, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Dr. K Narayanaswamy and the chairman of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India, Dr SV Veeramani will be the Guests of Honour. The celebration program will commence at 10 am, and is sponsored by the Tamil Nadu Pharmaceutical Sciences Welfare Trust (TNPSWT) and the Tamil Nadu IPA Trust, with the support of Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council (TNSPC), Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (IACP), Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and Tamil Nadu Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (TNPMA). In the inaugural function, the president of the TN IPA, Dr. S Manivannan will preside over and the vice president J Jayaseelan will welcome the audience. In the function, the awards and scholarships instituted by TNPSWT will be distributed. A vice-president of the TN IPA, MM Yusuf will announce the name of the ‘Best Pharmacist Award’ winner of 2024 in the function. The secretary of the association Dr. T Sathish will propose vote of thanks. After the inaugural function three technical sessions will be conducted from 12 noon onwards. The first one will be on the subject, ‘Artificial Intelligence Transferring Pharmaceutical Industry’ and the speaker will be Dr. Duraiswamy Rajan Palani, founder and CEO of ‘Archimedes Digital’. The theme of the second session is ‘Opportunities and Challenges of Medical Devices’. The deputy drug controller of the CDSCO, New Delhi, Dr. Aseem Sahu will deliver a talk on the subject. The fourth session will be on ‘Current Technological Development of Ayush Drugs’ and the speaker is Dr. Ilavarasan, former assistant director of the ‘Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute’ in Chennai. Meanwhile, the pharmacy week celebration of the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (TN IPGA) will be held at Sri Ramachandra University’s pharmacy block on November 23. Blood donation camps and awards distributions will be held as part of the celebration.
