The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has informed all students who have qualified through Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT), a National Level Entrance Examination for entry into M. Pharma Programme, that the Pradhan Mantri Scholarship for Pharmacy Postgraduate Studies (PMSPPS) will be awarded to eligible students.
The Council will award the scholarship of Rs. 12,400 per month to GPAT qualified students admitted to PCI-approved post graduate programmes in approved institutions or university departments as per PCI approved intake.
"Only qualified GPAT students are eligible for this scholarship and this will be disbursed for the academic session 2023-24 and 2024-25 as per the result declared by NTA & NBEMS respectively. The scholarship is tenable for the duration of 24 months (2 years)," added the council in a circular to all qualified GPAT candidates.
The National Testing Agency conducts the GPAT exam to facilitate institutions to select suitable pharmacy graduates for admission into the master's programme.
GPAT is a three hour computer based online test which is conducted in a single session. The GPAT score is accepted by all AICTE-Approved institutions, university departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges. A few scholarships and other financial assistance in the field of pharmacy are also given on the basis of the GPAT score, according to NAT.
National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducts the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Exam (DPEE), through the regulations set in 2022. The candidates who have qualified the exam only will be eligible for registration as pharmacist under the provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948. Role of NBEMS is limited to conduct of the examination, publishing the result and handing over the result to Pharmacy Council of India and all State Pharmacy Councils.
The Council, while announcing the scholarship, added that it will be awarded through Canara Bank and all qualified students in the GPAT exam should open their account in the particular bank for scholarship.
It has also shared the link to the bank's portal to open an account and the detailed guideline for the same, along with the circular.
