As part of taking forward its efforts to skill and upskill the pharmacists in the country, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) will be appointing an official to head the skill and training activities and centres of the Council.
The Council will be conducting a walk-in interview for the post of project head (skill and training), on contract basis, by the last week of this month. The tenure of the post would be one year subject to extension based on merit and performance.
The candidate should not be more than 30 years of age and should have Pharm.D or Pharm.D (PB) from an institution approved under the Pharmacy Act, 1948 and should have three years of experience in teaching or research or regulatory or hospital pharmacy, out of which preferably one year shall be in a responsible administrative position. One year experience in any Central or State government institutions is desirable.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the post include to follow the orders issued by the PCI and implement to the skill and training centres, to coordinate with the State Pharmacy Councils and skill and training centres, to monitor the activities of these centres, to report and coordinate with the competent authority of the PCI, among others.
Fluency in English, proficiency in verbal and written communications, knowledge of modern management techniques, computer applications, and experience with computer-based surveys and a wide-range of cognitive or educational measures are desirable, said the Council. The interview is to be held on October 28, 2024.
It may be noted that the PCI has recently announced its initiatives in the skilling and upskilling activities in the pharmacy sector, including joining hands with the Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC), for skill development and entrepreneurship under funding support from Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) for upskilling and certification programme of LSSSDC in life sciences sector.
The project has total of 26,500 seats for the registered pharmacists for upskilling and certification by LSSSDC and the Council said that this is a good opportunity for the State Councils in Southern Region to up-skill and certify the registered pharmacists for their future growth and enhancing the skills for efficient performance in pharmacies. Initially, the project will start from southern states.
The programme include mandatory 30 hours including four hours for programme orientation and mock assessment practice, along with two-three hours for mandatory assessments and daily training hours is minimum two hours and maximum eight hours. Number of training hours per day and total days to complete one batch of 30 hours training.
This certificate will be issued after completion of course. Certificate is valid for renewal of registration under CEP, under regulation 4.2 of Pharmacy Practice Regulations, 2015, it added.

Besides, the Council has launched an online certificate course on rational use of medicines for registered pharmacists, under the continuous education programme, in collaboration with Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI). This is to enable the registered pharmacists to make the community aware to use the drugs rationally.
