Considering the dynamic nature of the higher education with regard to teaching and learning and to create a capable faculty as aimed by the National Education Policy 2020, the Dadhichi College of Pharmacy (DCP) at Cuttack in Odisha has designed one Faculty Development Programme (FDP) for the pharmacy teachers, to be conducted in a two-day schedule. The programme, which is based on ‘New Age Teaching Methodology and Pedagogy’, is slated for the 18th and 19th of next month, and it will cover a total five sessions, said Dr. Rajat Kumar Kar, principal of the college. The first two sessions will be covered on the first day after the inaugural session at 10 AM is over. The session one is on ‘Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and the second one is on, ‘Concept of Teaching – Basic Principles and Ethics of Teaching with Human Values’. Other three sessions will be held on the next day, November 19. The third session will begin at 10 AM, and it is on, ‘Bloom’s Taxonomy in Modern Teaching Practices for Quality and Equity based Education’. According to Dr. Kar, Bloom's Taxonomy is a framework for categorizing educational goals, developed by a committee of educators chaired by Benjamin Bloom in 1956. It was first introduced in the publication, ‘Taxonomy of Educational Objectives’. It was developed to provide a common language for teachers to discuss and exchange learning and assessment methods. The fourth session is on, ‘Integrating Technology in Effective Teaching’, and the final and fifth one is on ‘Classroom to Laboratory – Aligning a Dynamic Culture of Research and Innovation.’ Talking to Pharmabiz, Dr. Rajat said the present period requires a shift from the existing traditional teaching method which is based on theoretical educational instructional techniques to a modern and research-based-theory teaching which informs and conjures up teaching-learning practices. For the current era, an adaptive and innovative teaching method is necessary to help students to reach their full potential with a deep understanding of mental health. However, it is more challenging to get the newer technology where educators can acquire the necessary skills to meet modern teaching demands. The present two-days FDP has been designed to achieve the desired goals. “FDP is one of the endeavours to enhance teaching effectiveness by offering workshops and resources designed around the latest educational theories and pedagogies. The "New Age Teaching Methodology and Pedagogy" refers to innovative and contemporary approaches to education that align well with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020). It is indeed emphasizing student-centred learning, critical thinking, creativity and the integration of technology that significantly enhance transforming the quality of education. The FDP is supported by the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Dadhichi College of Pharmacy, and it is a part of the continuous professional development to nurture teachers for transforming value-based Education," he opined. The resource persons for the training program include Dr. Debi Prasad Mishra, director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research (NITTTR) in Kolkata, Prof. Satyaban Jena, former head of chemistry at the Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Dr. Sharmila Subranhmanian, principal of the Asian School of Management in Bhubaneswar, Dr. Renjan Kumar Pradhan, HoD of Biotechnology at the Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Dr. Nibetida Adhikari, Assistant Professor at PGCS&A at Utkal University and Prof. Gouri Kumar Dash, director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IGIPS) in Bhubaneswar.
