Karnataka government’s Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation city will propel lifesciences education to be globally competitive. It will be located between Doddaspete and Doddaballapur, which is roughly 60 kilometres from Bengaluru. This will be built in a total of 2,000 acres of land which is on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).

This project was earlier called Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City, but it has now been renamed KWIN City. The project aims to create a parallel city to Bengaluru for equal growth and opportunities in all lifesciences sectors among others.

From pioneering advancements in technology to fostering academic excellence, our state has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s future. With the launch of KWIN City, we set our sights even higher. We take this moment to reimagine what a city can be a city that is more than just buildings and roads, but one that fosters the limitless potential of human ingenuity, said Minister for Industries MB Patil.

The state has long been the intellectual powerhouse of India. With over 50 universities, 230+ engineering colleges, and 1,700+ ITIs, our state boasts one of the largest pools of knowledge in the country. These centers of learning are not just institutions; they are catalysts of change that continue to fuel our state's growth. KWIN City is envisioned as a destination where education transcends traditional boundaries. It will serve as a hub for modern, future-ready learning, added Patil.

As an established leader in healthcare and biotechnology, our state contributes to 33% of India's biotech exports, is home to 60% of India's biotech companies, and boasts a robust pharmaceutical industry that exports 40% of its output. With over 350 medical device manufacturers and a first-of-its-kind Medical Device Park in Mysuru, Karnataka is at the cutting edge of healthcare manufacturing and innovation.

With the creation of advanced educational infrastructure, we aim to attract leading national and international universities, bringing the best global expertise, he noted.

To this end, KWIN City will cultivate a talent pipeline that meets the demands of emerging industries. We aim to enhance Karnataka’s ranking in NITI Aayog’s School Education Index by establishing internationally acclaimed schools within the city. This city will take these strengths to new heights. Our objective is to establish the city as the foremost academic medical city in Asia, a place where healthcare leaders of tomorrow are nurtured, and where cutting-edge advanced medical research drives breakthroughs that will transform lives globally.

The city will attract leading national and international hospitals, making it a center of excellence for healthcare services and medical tourism. With world-class hospitals, research institutes, and clinical trial centers, KWIN City will cement Karnataka's position as a global leader in healthcare innovation, said Patil.
