The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has announced a call for applications for the prestigious ICMR Emeritus Scientist (ES) Programme. This initiative, led by the secretary of Department of Health Research (DHR) & director general (DG), ICMR, invites applications from senior retired medical scientists, researchers, and medical teachers who have either superannuated or are due to retire within three months from the date of this announcement.
This programme offers a significant opportunity for senior scientists to contribute to vital biomedical research and national health priorities.
Eligible candidates must be from UGC-recognized research institutes, NMC-recognized medical colleges, or other R&D institutions of national importance in India. They should belong to the medical/biomedical/life sciences field with a distinguished track record in their area of expertise. The program seeks those who wish to continue their ongoing research projects to bring them to a logical conclusion.
Interested applicants must ensure their area of contribution aligns with ICMR and National Health priorities. Applications should be forwarded by the head of the host institute/organization and must include a detailed work proposal. The complete set of signed applications should be submitted between 1st August 2024 and 30th August 2024, until 5:30 pm, in the prescribed format. Additionally, a soft copy of the complete application with all enclosures as a single PDF (not exceeding 3MB) should be emailed to icmr.ies@gmail.com.
The ICMR-ES programme aims to support active scientists/faculty after superannuation, enabling them to pursue research activities of national relevance. This program leverages their expertise for ICMR's endeavors and national health research priorities.
Eligibility for the programme is retired or soon-to-retire scientists/technologists not above the age of 67, from various Academic Institutions & National Laboratories, with notable scientific achievements. Positions are limited to thirty (30) at any given time, with a maximum of 25% allocated to retired ICMR scientists.
Tenure is initially one year, renewable annually, with a maximum of five years, not extending beyond 70 years of age. Monthly payment equal to the last pay drawn minus pension, with a research contingency grant of Rs. five lakh per annum.
