 The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the premier institution for biomedical research in India, has announced a request for Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the establishment of ICMR Collaborating Centres of Excellence (ICMR-CCoE) for the year 2024. This initiative aims to recognize and foster collaboration with outstanding research groups that have demonstrated excellence in the field of biomedical research.
The ICMR seeks to acknowledge research groups that have conducted exceptional research in recent years. The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between ICMR and its institutes, as well as amongst the recognized Centres of Excellence. It also seeks to enhance the country's resources in terms of information, services, research, and training to support national health development.
The ICMR plays a pivotal role in the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research in India, striving to enhance the health of Indian citizens and position India as a global leader in health research. The council acknowledges the contributions of numerous research institutions, including those in the public and private sectors, medical colleges, and non-governmental organizations, towards India's emerging status as a global health research power.
The recognition will last for five years and may be extended based on a review.
The initiative is open to public and private sector institutions, NGOs, academic and research institutions, including medical, veterinary, and engineering colleges.
Recognition as an ICMR-CCoE does not entail any financial support from ICMR. Institutions will not receive additional funding as part of this recognition.
Indian research institutes or organizations that meet the specified criteria are invited to submit their EoI. It shall be led by a senior Principal Investigator (PI) with cutting-edge biomedical research experience with a proven track record in health research, evidenced by impactful publications.
The candidate should have demonstrated collaboration with or contribution to ICMR. He/she should have the willingness to contribute to ICMR’s objectives on an honorary basis, such as serving as adjunct faculty, assisting with proposal development workshops, etc. He/she should have a commitment to work with ICMR on national public health priorities. The initiative is Inclusive of various research teams such as basic research, translational research, clinical research, laboratory-based research, and population-based research.
