With an aim to expand its presence across India, the Tropical Animal Genetics (TAG), the livestock technology and genomic breeding company, is planning to set up one unit each of embryo and pharmaceutical product manufacturing units in Telangana state.
As part of this, the company is to raise a funding of Rs.145-175 crore to meet its expansion needs. Over all in the coming few years ahead, TAG is planning to set up about 4-5 specialised embryo manufacturing units across the country as part of its overall plan to expanding its markets in India.
According to Srinivas Aluri, co-founder of TAG, the main objective is to expand across the India and unleash the huge growth potential in the livestock technology segment. “In fact we are looking for investors who are looking for the development of innovative technologies in the livestock segment. In the next couple of years ahead we want to ensure sustainable and profitable income sources to the dairy farmers in the country. For this we want investors who can fund us in our endeavour to bring out new technologies which would help improve to improve the productivity of livestock in India,” said Aluri.
Going with its plan to focus in South India, the company has shifted its base from Haryana to Hyderabad in Telangana. “The ecosystem for industrial growth in Telangana, particularly research facilities for bringing out new innovations in dairy and related pharma and genomic research is very good in Hyderabad. As we are a new age star-up, we are looking to harness the power of deep technology for dairy farming sector. During the past 5 years we have been doing intensive research in improving productivity of cows, buffaloes and creating disease resistant chicken,” says Aluri.
As part of its future plans the company is planning to come out with new pharmaceutical products that will be utilised in pregnancy free lactation (PFL), for which the company is planning to seek approval from Indian food and drug administration.
The company is also planning to come out with new technology to create new breeds of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) resistant cattle. Currently the company is operating a farm in Karnal, has one embryo manufacturing facility in Anand, Gujarat and has a lab and bioengineering subsidiary in Bengaluru. So far the company has invested more than Rs.70-80 crore and is looking for new investors for its future research to bring out innovative technology for improving the productivity of dairy sector in India.
