Vinoba Bhave Research Institute (VBRI) mHospitals, which is the first ever digital cardiac-care platform for India, commenced service on October 2, to provide a second opinion medical consultancy. The in-home consultancy services that the virtual hospitals platform will provide to the patients are meant to strengthen the Fit India Movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this year. VBRI hopes to contribute to the efforts being made in this direction.

The platform, currently in the sixth stage of its field trials, has been welcomed with a positive response. However, it does not cater to any medical emergency at the moment and has limited its services to the district of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for this phase of trials.

According to Dr Ashutosh Tiwari, managing director, there is an urgent need to provide the right healthcare to the general public, and that too, on time. The new and modern technological advancements can be used to achieve better healthcare for people across different geographical locations. The current century is marred with issues like rising population and depleting resources. Every now and then, we hear about people stuck in places with no access to health supplies. The digital technology can be linked to healthcare sector to create a virtual interface for doctors and patients to treat complex diseases. mHospitals is one such platform developed by VBRI in order to help the patients and remove multiple barriers and obstacle that do not allow them access to healthcare.

“mHospitals is a revolutionary virtual hospitals platform that utilizes machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud medicine to provide the best quality of cardiac-care to the patients with the highest level of convenience. The platform allows the patients to consult quality doctors, schedule visits, take prescriptions, connect with doctors on a video call, and a lot more right from their homes. mHospitals is a product of the digital revolution that the world is witnessing at the moment. By integrating the most advanced technologies known to mankind and the expertise of quality hospitals and one doctors, the platform offers top quality cardiac-care to the patients,” stated Dr. Yogesh Shukla, director-mHospitals.

One of the biggest ideas behind the inception of mHospitals was to eliminate the barrier of distance from the healthcare sector. mHospitals leverage this wide reach huge network of internet and mobile devices to provide its services to the patients. The platform helps doctors to communicate with patients.

The Institute noted that the Union government is already taking a lot of steps to improve the accessibility of healthcare. The National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) provides an insurance of as much as 500,000 to 100,000 families annually. A virtual hospitals platform like mHospitals will surely strengthen this initiative and give a chance to more and more people to gain access to safe and secure cardiac care.
