Karnataka government has now appointed U T Khader as health and family welfare minister. This is in fact the second time he is taking on the mantle as minister for health and family welfare. He was serving as the 17th Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, since May 2023. Now he replaces the erstwhile minister Dinesh Gundu Rao following a change of chief ministers in the state with DK Shivakumar taking over from the erstwhile chief minister Siddharamiah. Minister Khader first became a minister in 2013 in the government headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah. As health and family welfare minister, he had introduced dialysis centres in taluk hospitals and bike ambulance services. His appointment state Cabinet has brought representation to Dakshina Kannada district in the new government.
