Karnataka govt appoints UT Khader as health minister

Our Bureau, Bengaluru
Friday, June 5, 2026, 11:30 Hrs  [IST]

Karnataka government has now appointed U T Khader as health and family welfare minister. This is in fact the second time he is taking on the mantle as minister for health and family welfare. He was serving as the 17th Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, since May 2023. Now he replaces the erstwhile minister Dinesh Gundu Rao following a change of chief ministers in the state  with DK Shivakumar taking over from the erstwhile chief minister  Siddharamiah.

Minister Khader first became a minister in 2013 in the government headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah. As health and family welfare minister, he had introduced dialysis centres in taluk hospitals and bike ambulance services.

His appointment state Cabinet has brought representation to Dakshina Kannada district in the new government.

Dear Sir,

I am a resident of Channapatna Taluk in Bengaluru South District, Karnataka. I would like to bring to your kind attention a pressing concern regarding the lack of advanced healthcare facilities in our region.
In case of medical emergencies, especially cardiac issues, patients from Channapatna and nearby areas are forced to travel long distances to Bengaluru or Mysuru for treatment. This delay can be critical and, in many cases, life-threatening. The absence of a well-equipped heart hospital, such as Jayadeva Institute, in our taluk places a heavy burden on residents.
Channapatna continues to lag behind in terms of healthcare, industrial, and overall infrastructure development. The people here feel that despite contributing as responsible citizens, their basic needs are still unmet.
I humbly request you to consider establishing a Jayadeva Heart Hospital or a similar advanced medical facility in Channapatna. This initiative would greatly benefit the people of our region b
