In a major crackdown on the illegal sale of veterinary drugs, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana seized stocks of purported Oxytocin injections during raids conducted at fodder shops in Patancheru. The operation, carried out on targeted establishments suspected of supplying the hormone for misuse in the dairy industry. Acting on credible information, DCA officials inspected two specific cattle feed outlets where the unauthorized stocks were being held. At Sri Renuka Cattle Feed, located at Pati Road, authorities seized 40 unlabelled transparent bottles, each containing 200 ml of the liquid, from the proprietor, R. Saikrishna Goud. A second raid was conducted at Laxmi Krishna Cattle Feed in Chaitanya Nagar Colony, resulting in a much larger haul. Officials there confiscated 120 unlabelled bottles of 250 ml capacity from the shop owner, Mylaram Sai Ram. In total, 160 bottles of the suspected hormone were removed from the local market. The DCA stated that these fodder shops were illegally stocking the injections for sale to dairy farmers, who often misuse the drug to artificially induce milk let-down. While the practice is used to increase milk production, the administration warned that such unauthorized use poses significant risks to animal health. The enforcement team included Drugs Inspectors M Chandrasekhar, M. Vara Prasad, N Ravikiran Reddy, and T Praveen Kumar. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of K Dass, deputy director (Nizamabad), and P Ramu, assistant director (Patancheru). Samples of the seized liquids have been sent for laboratory analysis to confirm their chemical composition. The DCA emphasized that the unauthorized stocking and sale of oxytocin is a serious offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, punishable by up to five years of imprisonment. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious manufacturing or sale of drugs, including narcotics, through their toll-free number. Further investigations into the source of the unlabelled oxytocin are currently underway to identify and prosecute all offenders involved in the supply chain.
