The Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), the largest organisation of pharmacy professionals in India, has elected the veteran academician Dr R N Gupta from Jharkhand as its 37th president. Dr Gupta has been associated with IPA for the last 30 years and for a long time he was the chairman of the education division under the association. The former regulatory officer from West Bengal, Dr. Subhash Mandal, is the new honourary secretary. There was no election held for the post of treasurer, as Alka Mukne from Mumbai was unanimously elected to the post. Elections were also held for the post of editors for the publications by IPA. Dr. Anuradha Majumdar has been elected editor for the online publication, Pharma Times, and Dr S Vidhyadhara from Hyderabad as editor for the print edition, Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IJPS). Under the association there are five divisions of pharmacy segments functioning. Elections were held for chairman for each division. Dr Ramesh Adepu has been elected to hold the post of chairman of the hospital pharmacy division and M Vasudeva Rao for the Industry division. Dr A Ramakrishnan is the new chairman for the regulatory affairs division. Two posts of chairmen for the divisions, community pharmacy division and education division were elected unopposed. Raj Vaidya from Goa and Dr. G Sumalatha from Karnataka are the persons unanimously elected to the positions of chairmen for CPD and for ED. The past president of the IPA, Dr. Vadalamudi Rao was the returning officer for the 37th election. The result was announced on September 19 by the existing president, Dr T V Narayana.
