In view of the World Cancer Day observed on February 4, 2022, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital has taken the noble initiative of partnering with Karkinos Healthcare to promote early detection of cancer in Mumbai among the under-privileged communities.
The community outreach program will be conducted with the objective of screening 2,00,000 people for cancer in and across Mumbai, along with a managed cancer care delivery system. The screening services will be provided for free to the under-privileged communities under this initiative.
This initiative will provide access to potentially life-saving cancer screening facilities to those belonging to economically backward categories, as they are the ones who need such facilities the most, due to a lack of awareness and funds for such tests. These tests can help detect specific types of cancer before signs and symptoms arise. The primary objective of cancer screening is to save lives that are taken by cancer and to prevent cancer deaths altogether through early detection.
Given that oncology is a key Centre of Excellence at Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, the initiative comprises screening people for different types of cancers such as oral cancer, breast cancer, cervix cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. The target demographic will be those between the ages of 30 and 65 years.
Speaking about the significance of the initiative R Venkataramanan, founder and CEO, Karkinos said “We at Karkinos are elated by Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital unwavering support and commitment to this initiative. This is just the beginning of our community outreach programme, to reach out to those who might otherwise be unable to receive these life-saving facilities. We are hopeful of expanding our services across the country in the future in an effort to save countless lives through the early detection of cancer. It is incredibly heartening to be a part of this profound initiative.”
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Tarang Gianchandani, CEO, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital said, “As a doctor dedicated to saving lives, it truly pains me to see people lose their lives due to lack of screening and access to proper facilities, which is why Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital has found an apt partner in Karkinos Healthcare to aid this initiative with our state of art facilities and commitment to giving life and Karkinos’ technology platform and command center will help provide seamless patient experience.”
The goal is to ensure a care continuum for those who are unable to afford cancer screenings due to financial constraints or lack of awareness through follow-ups for further treatment for those who may need it. The effort will be launched in Mumbai and its suburbs, with plans to expand further across the country.
The initiative aligns with the aim and vision of Karkinos Healthcare, as the organization is an end-to-end technology driven oncology focused healthcare platform, geared towards ensuring that no one is deprived of care due to lack of access or affordability. Leveraging Karkinos’ technology system will ensure enhanced integration of cancer services through the primary health care system.
