The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has resolved over 20 cases related to inconsistent supply of medicines, hand sanitisers and masks through its upgraded toll free helpline over the past two weeks in the wake of COVID-19 crisis.
The helpline has so far received 120 calls over the past few weeks.
Cases of restricted mobility of designated vehicles carrying medicines from Thane to Mumbai and vice versa were reported and resolved in a timely manner through the control room at the FDA headquarters in Mumbai under the guidance of joint commissioner (JC) vigilance Sunil Bhardwaj.
Maharashtra FDA has also made an appeal to all the citizens to report all issues related to drug shortages, unavailability and black marketing at Toll free number 1800222365 and 022 26592362/ 26592263/ 26592365.
Maharashtra FDA Minister Rajendra Shingane visited the control room and got apprised about the upgraded control room which has a dedicated team of drug inspectors maintaining an oversight on the current situation. The FDA officials have maintained that the drug supply chain in the state has been streamlined and that there are adequate supplies of hand sanitizers, masks and medicines.
Maharashtra FDA Intelligence Branch (IB) recently carried raid at the premises of Shri Siddhi Vinayak Dyechem Pvt Ltd, Mulund West and seized stock of finished product, raw material, packing material worth Rs 25 lacs. The firm was manufacturing sanitisers without holding a valid license and was manufacturing mainly for export purpose. Raid was conducted under the guidance of AB Unhale Commissioner Maharashtra FDA and Sunil Bhardwaj, joint commissioner (JC) vigilance.
Central government has notified Essential Commodities (EC) Order, 2020 to regulate the production, quality, distribution, logistics of masks (2ply and 3ply surgical masks, N95 masks) and hand sanitizers for COVID-19 management. The EC order notification shall remain in force for a period up to June 30, 2020 from the date of its publication in the official gazette.
