A delegation comprising officials of Municipal Government and representatives of medical and pharma sector from the port city of Fangchenggang in south China is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu from October 5 to 15 this year to discuss with the pharma industry players in the state and explore opportunities for investment in the upcoming Pilot Zone in south China's Guang Xi province.
China’s International Medical Opening-up Pilot Zone (Pilot Zone) is a special economic zone on the lines of SEZ in India and it is subject to unique economic regulations for establishing business units, mainly pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical innovation, sources from the Pilot Zone informed Pharmabiz.
Led by Ban Zhongbo, the mayor of Fangchenggang, the delegation will meet the captains of drugs and medical devices manufacturing industries and managements of leading hospitals in Tamil Nadu and discuss various investment opportunities in the upcoming Pilot Zone in China. The meeting is organized here by the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Drugs Manufacturers Association (TN IDMA). The delegation will also visit major pharma and medical devices manufacturing companies in other states and hold discussion with the industry captains. The formal Chinese delegation-Indian industry meeting will be held on October 11 in Chennai.
The Medical Pilot Zone project is developed in Fangchenggang by the Beijing Peace Tour Cultural Exchanges Centre (Peace Tour) in association with the local municipal government. Peace Tour is an international cultural exchanges organization in China and it aims to promote medical innovation and cooperation among SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) countries. India is a member of the SCO countries, said Lin Xi, the project officer of the Beijing based International Medical Innovation & Corporation Forum (IMICF), over telephone.
Other members of the delegation include Zheng Dong, deputy secretary general of Fangchenggang municipal government, Liao Yun, director of Municipal Development and Reforms Commission, Zhu Yuyun, director of Municipal Administration for Market Regulations, Xuan Dong, director of Municipal Health Commission, Tan Meijun, English Translator of Foreign Affairs Office, Shao Changchun, director general of Peace Tour and international adviser for the Pilot Zone, Lin Xi, project officer, Davuzova Rakhima, assistant to DG of Peace Tour, Lai Ziji, chairman of Guangxi – Fangchenggang Culture and Tourism Group, Li Hui, Head of Department of GFCT and officers of the Pilot Zone Xie Sirui and Liu Rui.
While briefing about the project, Lin Xi said the Chinese delegation will discuss with Tamil Nadu IDMA leaders and medical devices industry doyens on matters of investment policies in the emerging Medical Pilot Zone project. They will seek greater participation from Indian healthcare institutions and manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, APIs and medical devices. From TN IDMA, the delegates for the ‘October 11 Round Table Conference’ include SV Veeramani, the immediate past president of the IDMA, J Jayaseelan, chairman of TN IDMA, P Satheesh, secretary and S. Sivanandam, honorary secretary. In last April, an Indian delegation including TN IDMA leaders had visited Fangchenggang to attend a medical conference as part of the upcoming project.
Commenting on the visit of Chinese delegation, J Jayaseelan, chairman of TN IDMA, said this meeting will help the Indian pharmaceutical and medical devices companies who want to invest on the project to enter freely into the Chinese market. Besides, with this development, the healthcare sectors of both the countries can exchange each one’s innovations for the benefit of the people of both the countries.
He said in the Month of June this year, TN IDMA signed an MoU with the Chinese organisation, Peace Tour, for promoting medical innovation and cooperation between China and India by investing on the Pilot Zone. The present visit of the Chinese delegation is a follow-up step towards realizing the project.
