Opto Circuits is supplying life-saving devices to the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2012) in Ukraine. The organising committee for the event has chosen Cardiac Science (UK) which is the subsidiary of Opto to supply Powerheart AEDs to venues involved in the international tournament in Ukraine, including stadiums, team accommodations, airports and railway stations.
Powerheart is a brand of sophisticated automated external defibrillators which are deployed in public spaces to resuscitate victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The equipment is designed to guide users through visual and audio instructions. The product’s intelligent software detects when a shock is required and administers it if necessary.
The UEFA European Football Championship is the main football competition of the men's national football teams governed by UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations).
Cardiac Science has been providing AEDs to the global sports industry for several years; these include Australian sports clubs and the UK football industry. It also provides training programmes to over 60 clubs and stadiums in UK including Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
In India, the Karnataka State Football Association recently installed the Powerheart AED.
“It reflects the current mood to better protect footballers at every level of the game and of course the wider public in this case. The deployment of our AEDs at key transport hubs as well as stadiums in Ukraine will also safeguard supporters and the general public,” said Shaun Ingram, UK managing director at Cardiac Science.
Further Cardiac Science has also been appointed official AED supplier to the European Sumo Championships 2012 which begin on June 14 in Budapest, Hungary.
