Oman Dental College, Muscat highlights need for child-guided sensory integration programme. Mouth being the gateway to overall health and infection of the oral cavity other organs of the body.
In this regard the college has organised an online webinar as part of its regular continuing professional development (CPD) programmes. Bengaluru-based Group Pharmaceuticals, facilitated the webinar.
Noting that the oral cavity being the most sensory rich zone of a human body, Dr Ghousia Begum, consultant pedodontist said that sensory challenges are extremely evident on neuro diverse children. Oral cavity being the most sensory rich zone of our body & the dental operatory being most sensory rich environment.
Pedodontics is a dental specialty that deals with the care of children's teeth. The pedodontist is extensively concerned with prevention, which includes instruction in proper diet, use of fluoride, and practice of oral hygiene.
Speaking on the topic 'Understanding Oral Health Behaviours in Children with Neurodiversityan inclusive sensory-sensitive and sensory-smart perspective', Dr Begum said that the neuro diverse kids too deserve oral care service. Hence the efforts to provide dental health care is important.
She shared her invaluable clinical experiences, insights and tips in providing adequate dental treatment to these specially challenged children.
The webinar was accredited with 0.5 credits by the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB). Dr Begum has well-established practice at the dental health care & research unit in Bangalore which is dedicated to the oral care of specially challenged children. The webinar was well attended by faculty, alumni, students and others.
