Experts are of the view that digital transformation will shape the healthcare ecosystem at large by expanding access to services and delivering better patient experiences.

And the future adaptability and resilience will require data-driven, human-centric solutions that will allow the pharmaceutical industry to move quickly to support evolving patient needs, stated Umang Vohra, MD & global CEO, Cipla.

“With the advent of digitization, increased adoption of data driven analytics, artificial intelligence, robotics and disruptive technologies across all sectors, we firmly believe there lies a massive untapped potential in India to play a pivotal role and bring about a paradigm shift by climbing up the innovation ladder in healthcare domain,” Vohra added.

In the last decade, Indian healthcare has witnessed tremendous growth, partially due to innovative healthcare solutions which have not only enabled people in remote areas to access quality care but have also increasingly reduced the cost of delivery along with increased efficiency.

Vohra stated that telemedicine and online consultation are emerging areas that have proven to be a boon especially during the pandemic.

The government has also launched the  Ayushmann Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency of health service delivery and it will provide the necessary support to integrate the digital health infrastructure of the country, stated Vohra.

Vohra added, “At Cipla, the culture of innovation is deeply embedded in our ethos, with innovative thinking being integral to fulfilling our purpose of ‘Caring for Life’. We encourage innovation-led entrepreneurship to harness disruptive ideas in healthcare to meet patient needs. Back in 2018, we initiated ‘INNOVENTIA’ that is envisioned to be the biggest innovation challenge to crowd source and incubate disruptive ideas in healthcare. Our commitment to continuous innovation will yield improvement that will help us in delivering affordable medicines to patients across the world.”

Vohra further added that another critical aspect in scaling healthcare innovation is to harness the power of collaborations.

“During the pandemic, we witnessed large scale collaborations across governments, industries, academia, healthcare providers and citizens to abate the crisis by working in tandem and furnishing innovative solutions like drug repurposing, indigenous drug development, mass production of vaccines, etc,” added Vohra.
