On the occasion of the upcoming World Mental Health Day, India’s leading Genetic diagnostic testing Company, Lilac Insights is all set to launch AtEase – an inclusive mental health platform for women (cis-women & transwomen) and non-binary individuals.

The platform offers a safe space, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy during sessions.

AtEase will provide a safe and nurturing space for women, and non-binary individuals. It is built on the insight ‘you should be your first priority’. The platform aims to help ingrain mental and emotional wellness in day-to-day life of these individuals. It supports their mental health through advocacy, collaboration and improved accessibility. The therapists on AtEase work with clients to: build insights about their challenges, develop ways to address those challenges and to better manage troubling symptoms.

The vision of AtEase is to #unfiltermentalhealth and to create an inclusive environment for women and non-binary individuals. They can find all the support they need on their mental health journey, on the platform. The support uses social science, social justice, evidence-based queer affirmative approaches to help tackle issues grappling the individuals.

Through client-centered methods, AtEase aims to help reduce depression, anxiety, burnout and other mental health related issues experienced by women, and non-binary individuals. The experts associated with AtEase have been designated based on their professional expertise of working in the LGBTQIA+ and women’s mental health space.

Richa Vashista, chief mental health expert, AtEase said, “We live in a time where caring for self doesn't come naturally to us. We pay attention to our physical health or what our body is trying to tell us, but we tend to ignore our mind. Taking care of our mental health is not only essential but it is integral to a healthy, balanced life. AtEase provides a safe, queer affirmative and trauma-informed space to nurture your mental health”.

On account of World Mental Health Day, Lilac Insights has also organized two insightful webinars where eminent speakers will be sharing their thoughts. On 12th October, the webinar would be oriented towards corporate HRs covering the topic – ‘Unfiltering mental health at workplace’. The second webinar on 13th October would cover aspects of ‘mental health in an unequal world’.

Subhamoy Dastidar, co-founder & director, Lilac Insights said, “Gender is a critical determinant of mental health and mental wellbeing. Women are more vulnerable to mental illnesses than men because of the distinctive social pressures they face. The patterns of psychological distress and mental health issues are different among women from those seen among men. Hence, there is a need state for such a focused approach and to manage their condition differently."

According to a World Health Organization report, symptoms of depression, anxiety, and unspecified psychological distress are 2–3 times more common among women than among men. Depressive disorders account for close to 41.9% of the disability from neuropsychiatric disorders among women compared to 29.3% among men. In India, depression occurs as frequently during late pregnancy and after delivery as in developed countries.
